The school’s ethos embodies a strong vision for character and personal development and as such developing pupils’ character is an integral part of life at St Joseph’s as we recognise and respond purposefully to the needs of our pupils. To develop a strength of character and to prepare our pupils for their future of possibilities, we provide a wealth of opportunities such as: weekly outdoor learning, cultural and creative opportunities, visits and visitors and sporting activities. Participation is enabled for all pupils and in order to ensure equity, we have poverty proofed our school so that no one is disadvantaged in any way.
· Pupils very happily and proudly take on various leadership roles in school, e.g. School Council, Prayer Leaders and Peer Mentors, and as a result of these opportunities, pupils seek opportunities to grow in virtue, working with the parish and local community, collecting food for foodbanks, raising funds as global citizens of the church. As such, the children are fully committed and understand their role for the common good.
· We provide pupils with meaningful opportunities to understand how to be responsible, respectful, active citizens who contribute positively to society.
Through the school’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural education, pupils develop a strong understanding of tolerance, respect and democracy. Pupils develop healthy attitudes towards difference and enjoy learning about different faiths and cultures.
We promote equality of opportunity and diversity effectively. As a result, our pupils understand, appreciate and respect difference in the world and its people, celebrating the things we share in common across cultural, religious, ethnic and socio-economic communities
· From the earliest stages of their school life, children are exposed to a range of different career opportunities with the aim of building high aspirations from a young age. When teaching subject specific skills, our pupils are asked to think like scientists, historians etc to develop an early understanding of some of the roles that these subject disciplines can lead into.
We aim for our pupils to leave us as the best versions of themselves, to be aspirational and be prepared for our ever-changing world
