As part of our history topic on Special Places, we have been exploring local buildings which were built before we were born. This week, Year 2 visited St Andrew’s church. We made observations and looked for evidence to indicate that the building was built a long time ago.

This week we formed our own political parties and we looked at different ways to improve our classroom, our school and our community. We used our ideas to campaign and present our ideas to the class. We then voted to elect our winning party.

Our challenge was to work together to make a bridge using eight sheets of A4 paper and some sticky tape. Our bridges had to be at least 40cm long  and hold the weight of a toy car.

We have had a fantastic morning with Captain Chemistry exploring the suitability of materials. We selected different materials to make a helmet to protect an egg. Then we tested our protective helmets outside. Six of our eggs survived the fall and Captain Chemistry told us this was a record! We have had so much fun! We also made boats and tested how well they floated.

In History, we are learning about what makes places special. We were able to place local landmarks on a timeline.
