What a fantastic session we had this morning!
11 amazed disciples, sitting very still,
Listening to Jesus, up on Olive Hill.
‘Time to go’, says Jesus and then a cloud came down.
‘I’ll send the power that you need, just wait inside the town.
“Jesus on a cloud.”
“He told his friend to share the Good News.”
“His friends were sad.”
On Tuesday the children initiated their own learning by using balls in the guttering instead of water.
They followed the ball down commenting on the speed and distance it travelled beyond the guttering.
Today we added paper and paint to enhance the experience. This gave the children an opportunity to observe any changes to the speed, distance and movement of the balls when new things were added.
After a while they noticed that the balls weren’t travelling as fast. “It’s because of the paint,” said Charlotte.
The children tried to add water to see if that would help.
It didn’t, Miss Coxon suggested moving the paint to the bottom. The children moved the paint and continued to explore the movements.
“Mine’s stopped,” Arthur commented.
The children watched with excitement to see where the ball would go and if it would leave any marks on the way.
Construction materials provide a wealth of opportunities for children to practise maths while using their imagination and making links to real-life.
On this occasion the children worked together to interpret plans, count resources and build their castle.
After reading the story Jasper’s Beanstalk we had a go at making our own beanstalk in a bag.
Once the bean was in a bag we stuck in to the window so it could be in the sunlight. We are watching and waiting patiently just like Jasper did.
There was an air of excitement in Class 1 this morning when they found out they were going to become authors. We are writing a book based on our beanstalks. Here is a sneak peak:
Following the children’s interests we listened to the story Superworm. There was lots of discussion around the book and it led to us looking at facts about worms.
We worked together to create a wormery to watch the wonderful worms at work.
We are waiting patiently for the worms to settle into their new home.
The children have had great fun exploring and learning in our outdoor area.
We were very lucky to secure funding from the Neighbourhood Budget Small Grants and The Catherine Cookson Charitable Trust which has helped us to develop our outside environment.
Being outside offers lots of learning opportunities and helps to promote a healthy body and mind.
All you need is a pallet, music, accessories and children from Class 1 and you have your own show. After inviting the rest of the class to watch the children danced and sang their hearts out.
