Football Fever
Football fever has taken over Class 1 these past few weeks. The children have shown interest in the Premier League, Sunderland and their trip to Wembley and playing football themselves.
As a result of this we enhanced our provision:
- Football small world game
- Football maths challenges
- Equipment outside for children to play football and develop skills.
Walk to School Week
As our ducklings grow we can introduce them to water. We filled our water tray and made an island so that there was a space for them to take a break from the water if they wanted to.
We watched with excitement as the ducklings darted around the water tray.
As our tray is clear we were able to watch what was happening underneath the water as well as on top.
Ducklings
This morning we got a lovely surprise as there were 2 ducklings and they were in the cage.
We watched with interest as the ducklings got used to their new environment. After dinner we got to have a hold or a stroke.
We were very lucky this afternoon to see a duckling hatch from an egg.
The children waited patiently and watched carefully for the duckling to make it’s way out of the egg.

Gleeson Homes
The children had a busy morning visiting the Gleeson Homes site in Blackhall.
Dressed in their hi vis jackets and hard hats off they went into the site.
We were extremely sensible as we walked through the building site to Plot 102.
Paula chatted to us about being safe on the site. We discussed why we were wearing the hi vis jackets and hats.
“We put our hard hats on to keep safe.” Joseph
We got to see some of the machinery that is used on the site.
Our next job was to have a go at bricklaying.
The staff and children from Class 1 would like to thank everyone at Gleeson Homes and our volunteers for a fantastic morning.
BCCET KS1 Maths Challenge
Children from Key Stage 1 visited St Aidan’s school to take part in a maths challenge. They participated in 4 rounds coming first in the Countdown challenge and winning a tie break question.
Well done to the team and thank you for being fantastic ambassadors for our school!
Energy Heroes
Energy Heroes led a whole school assembly to educate our children to become models of energy efficiency.
Year 5 then worked with Energy Experts on a variety of challenges around the theme of being ‘energy literate’ supporting them to
develop lifelong skills that will help them to make informed choices about energy use and climate change.
Youth Village
Children in Year 5 and 6 have enjoyed a relaxing retreat at the Youth Village. All children participated in a range of activities and as always behaviour was fantastic.
