To mark Remembrance Day 2021 we have taken part in lots of lessons and activities. We watched a film called ‘We will Remember them’ about how and why we remember some of the soldiers from our local regiment, the Durham Light Infantry, who fought in conflicts through history but did not return home.
The children looked at a selection of primary and secondary sources and used them to find out about local soldiers.
We gathered together for liturgical prayer, beautifully led by Class 4.
Class 1
We looked at pictures of the Cenotaph in London and used it as inspiration for our own.
Using a variety of different media we made poppies.
Class 2
After looking at the resources it inspired the children to create pieces of artwork and poems to say thank you to the soldiers who fought for our freedom. They even got to try on some of the kit that the Royal Navy wear today.
Class 3
Year 3 and 4 used the evidence they were given to find out about each of the different soldiers.
Class 4
Georgia O’Keeffe was an artist known for her paintings of enlarged flowers. Class 4 used this as an inspiration for their own piece of art work.
“At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.”
